Server Support Engineer

Job description Job Title: Server Support Engineer (1 - 3 Years Experience) Location: Chennai Job Type: Full-Time Department: IT Infrastructure / Technical Support Reports To: IT Manager / Server Operations Lead We are seeking a skilled and proactive Server Support Engineer with 1 - 3 years of hands-on experience to maintain, troubleshoot, and support physical and virtual server environments. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring server uptime, responding to incidents, and working closely with IT teams to support business-critical systems. Key Responsibilities: Monitor and maintain Windows/Linux server infrastructure (physical and virtual). Perform routine system maintenance and apply patches, updates, and upgrades. Respond to server-related incidents and resolve hardware, OS, and application-level issues. Maintain documentation for configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps. Manage user access, file permissions, and server security policies. Monitor system performance and generate reports on utilization and health checks. Coordinate with other IT teams for system integration and project implementation. Perform regular backup and restore operations; test disaster recovery procedures. Provide support during system outages and assist in root cause analysis. Ensure compliance with internal IT policies and external regulatory requirements. Required Skills & Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. 1 - 3 years of hands-on experience in server administration/support. Experience with Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) and/or Linux (RedHat/CentOS/Ubuntu). Knowledge of virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V). Familiarity with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy. Understanding of server security principles and patch management. Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Bash) is a plus. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and communication skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
