Job Description & Scope
Job description To lead the electrical function across core process areas Rolling Mill, Steel Melting Shop (SMS), Extrusion Press, and Pilger Millensuring equipment reliability, power optimization, and automation for safe, uninterrupted production in line with operational, energy, and statutory standards. Electrical Operations & Maintenance Plan and manage preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance of all electrical systems in: Steel Melting Shop (SMS): Electric arc furnaces (EAF), ladle furnaces, transformers, and electrode control systems. Rolling Mills: Main mill drives, shears, coilers, motors (AC/DC), PLC/SCADA systems. Extrusion Press & Pilger Mill: High-pressure electrical drive systems, automation controls, heaters, and safety interlocks. Ensure minimal downtime and high MTBF (Mean Time between Failures) for critical equipment. Troubleshoot chronic and critical electrical issues, applying root cause analysis (RCA). 2. Energy Management Monitor and optimize power consumption across all units. Coordinate with utility providers for consistent supply, grid synchronization, and load management. Implement energy-saving initiatives and align with ISO 50001 (if applicable). 3. Projects & Commissioning Drive electrical design and execution of expansion, revamp, and capex projects within the plant. Collaborate with OEMs, vendors, and engineering consultants for timely project execution. Lead commissioning of new electrical systems, automation upgrades, and digitalization initiatives. 4. Safety, Compliance & Audits Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including CEA regulations, electrical inspectorate norms, and OHS standards. Implement electrical safety practices: LOTO, arc flash protection, insulation testing, and regular audits. Maintain documentation for audits (internal/external) and liaise with regulatory bodies. 5. Automation & Digitalization Lead automation and control system improvements using PLCs, DCS, SCADA, and HMI. Integrate data acquisition and monitoring systems (e.g., historian systems, Industry 4.0 tools). Work with IT/OT teams on cybersecurity and system integrity. 6. Team Management & Leadership Manage and mentor a team of engineers, supervisors, and technicians across all shifts. Conduct training programs on safety, troubleshooting, and new technologies. Drive a culture of ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement. Key Skills & Competencies: In-depth knowledge of heavy electrical systems used in: EAF, LRF, and power rectifiers (for SMS) VFDs, DC motors, thyristor drives (for rolling mills & presses) High-voltage (HT) and low-voltage (LT) switchgear and substations Strong understanding of process control, automation, and SCADA/DCS. Skilled in energy audits, load balancing, and power factor correction. Crisis management, leadership, and stakeholder coordination.
