Job description Role & responsibilities Job Title: Costing Engineer Plastic & Glass Parts (Commercial Vehicle Domain) Experience: 4–5 Years Location: Chennai Industry: Automotive / Commercial Vehicles Department: Cost Engineering / Product Engineering Key Responsibilities: Perform should-cost estimation for plastic and glass components such as headlamps, tail lamps, wiper blades, washer tanks, mirrors, and windows. Analyze Bill of Materials (BoM), part drawings, and CAD data to estimate tooling, manufacturing, and assembly costs. Evaluate manufacturing processes such as: Injection Molding, Blow Molding, Compression Molding (for plastic) Glass Tempering, Laminating, and Bending (for glass) Benchmark costs using market data, supplier inputs, and historical cost databases. Collaborate with Design, Procurement, and Supplier teams to validate costing assumptions and optimize component costs. Support VA/VE initiatives and provide cost-saving proposals based on design or process alternatives. Required Skills and Tools: Strong knowledge of plastic and glass manufacturing processes, tooling, and material selection. Proficiency in tools like: BoMCheck / Teamcenter Product Cost Management, Costimator, or similar cost estimation software SAP or ERP systems for material and supplier data analysis Basic CATIA / UG NX for 3D model interpretation Excellent analytical skills and knowledge of cost breakdown structure. Good communication and cross-functional collaboration abilities. Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Automobile Engineering or equivalent. 4–5 years of relevant experience in automotive costing focused on plastic and glass components.
