Job description Role & responsibilities Lead complex automation and motion control projects from concept through deployment. Define system architectures for multi-axis motion systems using servo drives, motors, and advanced controllers. Oversee motion control software development, drive tuning, and system optimization. Provide technical leadership in selection and integration of servo systems (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Yaskawa, Mitsubishi). Develop project scopes, timelines, budgets, and resource plans; ensure timely and on-budget delivery. Mentor and support junior engineers in both technical execution and professional development. Coordinate cross-functional teams including mechanical, electrical, software, and field service personnel. Interface directly with customers to gather requirements, present technical solutions, and manage expectations. Create and review detailed technical documentation, including schematics, functional design specifications, and test plans. Support installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities on-site as needed. Exposure in; 1. Motion System Design & Architecture Design and develop motion control systems for automated machinery or robotics. Select and size components such as: Servo motors, stepper motors, linear actuators Drives and amplifiers Motion controllers Gearboxes, encoders, and feedback devices Develop system architecture diagrams, motion profiles, and axis control strategies (e.g., point-to-point, interpolated, coordinated motion). 2. Motion Control Programming Program motion controllers using platforms such as: Siemens S120 / TIA Portal / Simotion Rockwell Automation (Kinetix, Studio 5000) Yaskawa, Beckhoff TwinCAT, Mitsubishi, etc. Implement and tune motion algorithms: PID tuning Torque, velocity, and position loops Motion sequencing and trajectory planning 3. Integration and Commissioning Integrate motion systems with PLCs, HMIs, vision systems, and safety circuits. Commission servo/motion systems: Drive parameter setup Encoder alignment and homing System tuning and optimization for performance and repeatability Troubleshoot mechanical-electrical interaction issues (e.g., resonance, instability, thermal limits). 4. Simulation & Analysis Use motion simulation tools for: Load inertia calculations Dynamic performance analysis Vibration/resonance checks Perform system validation through virtual commissioning or real-time testing. 5. Communication & Networking Configure industrial communication protocols: EtherCAT, CANopen, Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Mechatrolink Ensure synchronized communication between controllers, drives, and IO modules. 6. Safety & Compliance Design motion systems in accordance with safety standards: ISO 13849, IEC 61508, UL508 Implement features such as safe torque off (STO), safe limited speed (SLS), etc. 7. Documentation & Support Develop and maintain technical documentation: Motion requirement specifications (MRS) System layouts and wiring diagrams Tuning logs, FAT/SAT reports Provide support for installation, troubleshooting, and customer training. 8. Cross-Functional Collaboration Work with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to align design and implementation. Provide input on mechanical design for optimal motion system performance (e.g., backlash, stiffness, alignment). Tools & Platforms Commonly Used: Software: TwinCAT, Studio 5000, TIA Portal, MotionWorks, Simotion Scout, Codesys, MATLAB/Simulink Design/Simulation: AutoCAD, SolidWorks Motion, EPLAN, Motion Analyzer (Rockwell), Servo Sizer (Bosch Rexroth) Protocols: EtherCAT, Profinet, CANopen, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP/RTU Preferred candidate profile Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field. 5+ years of hands-on experience in servo and motion control system design, integration, and commissioning. Proficient in programming and tuning of motion systems (e.g., PID control, trajectory planning, multi-axis synchronization). Extensive knowledge of motion controllers, PLCs, and industrial automation platforms. Solid understanding of communication
