Under general direction, responsible for a range of highly complex engineering tasks in new product development projects associated with design proposals, testing, feasibility analysis, mathematical modeling, sample building, manufacturing processes assessment, etc. to develop and implement new methods, designs and products. Writes engineering specifications and interprets/analyses test results. Handles complex assignments and trains junior staff. Role typically requires more than 5 years of experience. Position Overview: This is a team leader role who will manage the projects and people, while being responsible for his/her own deliverables for Fontaine Specialized ( https: / / www.fontainespecialized.com ). The role is 80% individual contributor and 20% team leader. As a Lead Engineer, you will be primarily responsible for engineering activities such as detailed design, analytical calculations, Tolerance stack ups, creating manufacturing drawings, review FEA reports, support product Roll-out activities, review complex designs/drawings for completeness, accuracy, and conformance to established Engineering Standards and practices pertaining to Heavy Haul and Specialized Trailers. In addition, you need to understand design intent, suggest Welds and apply GD&T as per ANSI standards. You will drive collaboration with cross-functional teams, leverage technical strategy and best practices, and lead the successful execution of projects. As a team leader, you will be involved in people development, managing on-time project delivery and responsible for quality of deliverables of all the projects within team. Required Qualifications: (Education, Technical Skills/Knowledge) Experience in Product design and understanding about integration of different sub-systems pertaining to Heavy Vehicle Chassis or Heavy Structures (Preferred Industry: Trailers , Commercial Vehicles, Earthmoving equipment, Construction equipment, Oil & Gas, Defense, Marine) Strong communication skills and the ability to convey technical information clearly A deep understanding of standard sections, Aluminum extrusion, welding and machining processes used for heavy structures is a must Strong technical knowledge of sheet metal design, metal forming, and casting as well as general engineering and physics concepts Proficiency in NX CAD software, PDM tools and release process Experience in Engineering change management process is a must Strong in application of DFM and DFA technique to designs Well versed in Weld Symbols , GD&T and ANSI drawing standards Expertise in Fit analysis , Tolerance stack up analysis and weldments Ability to understand design intent, review drawings/GD&T and make suggestions Exposure to TTMA and FMVSS standards and regulations with respect to Trailers is an added advantage Knowledge of prototyping and testing such as product performance tests, reliability tests, etc. Exposure to fabrication, production floor environment and supplier coordination Excellent understanding of materials, processes and finishing operations Knowledge of NPD process, design calculations, DFMEA and Concept Selection Matrix Exposure on reading and reviewing FEA simulation report Developing standard work instructions and implementing the best practice process documents & templates for complex drawings Evaluate drawings for possible manufacturing, assembly problems, ease of serviceability and suggest improvements Strong attention to detail and accuracy in work Exposure to Project Management Skills - Ability to plan, co-ordinate and execute tasks for self and team within agreed time and with quality Ability to work both independently and colla
