Job Overview: We are seeking a highly experienced Solar Electrical Design Engineer with a proven track record in the design and engineering of large-scale, ground-mounted solar power projects (100+ MW). The ideal candidate will bring expertise in electrical system design, project management, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to execute complex solar power generation projects from concept to completion. The Solar Electrical Design Engineer will work closely with the project development, engineering, and construction teams to ensure the electrical design meets all technical, financial, and regulatory requirements. Key Responsibilities: • Electrical System Design & Engineering: Lead the electrical design for ground-mounted solar power projects, ensuring high-quality, cost-effective, and compliant solutions. Design AC/DC power distribution systems, substation configurations, protection systems, and other essential electrical components. Design the layout and configuration of electrical components including transformers, inverters, switchgear, and cabling. Perform load flow analysis, fault current analysis, and short circuit analysis. Ensure compliance with international electrical standards (IEC, NEC, and local regulations). Design and optimize electrical systems for maximum efficiency and minimum downtime. • Project Development Support: Work with the project development team to assess site conditions and integrate electrical design with other engineering disciplines. Collaborate with the procurement team to identify suitable equipment and materials that meet project specifications and budgets. Provide technical support for cost estimation, technical specifications, and RFPs. Prepare and review design reports, calculation sheets, and other documentation. • Team Collaboration & Leadership: Lead a team of junior engineers and drafters, providing mentorship and technical guidance. Coordinate with other engineering teams (civil, structural, mechanical) to ensure a cohesive design and project execution. Liaise with clients, contractors, regulatory authorities, and stakeholders to ensure smooth project delivery. • Quality Assurance & Safety: Ensure the electrical designs meet high standards of quality, safety, and reliability. Oversee the preparation of design documentation and drawings, ensuring they are clear, detailed, and accurate. Perform risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for electrical hazards during design and construction. • Troubleshooting & Post-Commissioning Support: Provide support during the construction, commissioning, and operational phases of projects. Troubleshoot electrical system issues and suggest corrective actions. Required Qualifications & Skills: • Education: Bachelors or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related field. • Experience: A minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical design for solar power projects, with at least 5 years focused on large-scale ground-mounted solar projects (100 MW+). Proven experience in designing high-voltage electrical systems (HVAC, HVDC) for utility-scale solar power plants.
